There is no wrong season at Lapla - only different fishing. Open water runs from April to November. Spring, right after the ice goes in May, brings hungry Arctic Char and rainbow trout into the shallows. Summer means 24-hour daylight, predator pike on the lakes and fly fishing on the rivers. September is the peak of the grayling season and the month of big brown trout and golden forests. From December to April we fish through the ice: heated tents on frozen lakes, snowmobile transfers to the spots and the hunt for Arctic Char, the "Red Gold" of Lapland. From January to March there is also the Mountain Arctic Char Expedition to the high mountain lakes. Fly and spin fishing packages run from 1 May to 30 September, winter packages from 1 December to 30 April.

Yes - in Sweden every angler needs a fishing permit (fiskekort), and it is not included in our packages because permits are personal and vary by water: each lake and river belongs to a local fishing association that sells its own card. Prices start from about 50 SEK per day and depend on the water and on whether you buy a day, week or season card. Sorting the right one takes minutes: tell us where you want to fish and we help you buy it on arrival, and many local waters also sell their cards online through iFiske. If you fish on your own with one of our boats, ask us which card your chosen lake needs - we know every water around the lodge and will point you to the right one.

For winter and ice fishing we rent ice fishing rods, augers and heated tents. For summer fishing we rent spin fishing rods, reels and more. We also have a small fishing store at the lodge with lures, reels and tackle for sale, and boats for rent with Panoptix LiveScope and Minn Kota trolling motors. Most fly fishing regulars bring their favourite rods, flies and waders.

Yes - we rent fully equipped boats and pro-level fishing gear. Lapla Fishing has a modern fleet, from simple boats you skipper yourself to a tournament-grade rig with 200 hp, live sonar and a trolling motor.

By air: fly to Stockholm Arlanda, then take a short domestic flight north. The closest airport is Vilhelmina (VHM), 1 hour from the lodge; Lycksele (LYC) is 1 h 45 min away and Umeå (UME) 3 h 30 min. We pick you up at the gate - airport transfers from €51, and every fly fishing package includes the Vilhelmina transfer. By car: the lodge is at Långsjöby 167, Storuman, roughly 10 hours from Stockholm on the E4 and E12; parking at the lodge is free, and your own car is handy if you want to explore the region between fishing days. Winter guests need not worry: the roads are cleared all season, transfers run all year, and snowmobile transfers to the fishing spots start right at the lodge. We help with flight timing before you book anything.

Seven main species live in the waters around the lodge - more than 2,400 lakes plus rivers and ponds within reach. Arctic Char, the "Red Gold" of Lapland, is the star of the winter season and of the mountain lakes. Grayling is the pride of our rivers for fly anglers, with September as the peak month. Wild brown trout run up to trophy size in the rivers from May to mid-September. Northern pike grow past a metre in the lakes and take big streamers and lures from May to October, alongside perch and whitefish. Rainbow trout live in selected lakes, and the lodge record stands at 7 kg. Our guides choose the water each day by season, weather and the species you are after, so a week here usually means several species on the scorecard, not one.

Absolutely. Our local guides teach as much as they guide, and we run a fly fishing school for first-timers. Tell us your level when booking and we'll match the water and the pace to you.

Yes - that's exactly why we built apartments instead of dorms. Your own kitchen and living room, sauna by the lake, and experiences beyond fishing: mushroom and berry picking, hiking, and the northern lights in winter.

Every unit is a full apartment: bedrooms, living room, private bathroom, and a complete kitchen where you can cook today's catch. Fresh linens and towels, free WiFi and the gear drying room are all included.

Layers, always - Lapland weather changes fast. Waterproof jacket and boots in summer; in winter warm overalls and winter boots work best. Sunglasses and insect repellent earn their place in June and July.
